Link to Bear Management in the Rocky Mountain National Parks

Introduction

Bears and people have shared this landscape for thousands of years. But within the last hundred years, our human presence has grown rapidly within and around the mountain parks; we are challenged to ensure bears have the space and habitat they need to make a living.

This section takes you from the big picture of bear conservation to the various "tools of the trade" which wardens use on a day-to-day basis to respond to real-life situations. Together, these actions help protect both bears and people, and contribute to our national parks’ overall goal of ecological integrity.

In the various sections, click on the bear icon ( bear icon ) to learn more.
